Certified Instructor Overview
The teaching professional has very few quality sources to build a foundation of knowledge to work from. This makes it difficult to continue to develop as a teacher. Additionally, many of these sources can have conflicting views on the mechanics of the golf swing. We have developed a platform of innovative tools and information that provides continuous education for the instructor. Organized, clear, and thorough. Available 24/7/365. Continuously updated and current. This platform is the foundation of our Plane Truth Instructor Certification Program. It is THE resource for the Instructor to continuously grow and learn. We believe it to be the most comprehensive and innovative Instructor Certification Program in the game of golf.
Our mission is to provide the clearest, most complete source of organized golf instruction.
We don’t teach our instructors a strict model to memorize and apply to every student. We teach our instructors to understand each student’s specific faults and correct them individually. This process is what makes instructors great. Our platform is based around creating a correct and repetitive impact and ball flight. Using our ground breaking Plane Truth + & – Impact System (Diagnostic Tool), our instructors gain complete knowledge of impact and ball flight. This enables them to always select the correct swing mechanics fix that will immediately improve the flight of the student’s ball.
Our instructors are trained that there isn’t one way to swing a club, but rather two general types of golf swings and they are completely opposite in nature. With an understanding of 1 & 2 Plane Swings (Swing Shape) the instructor can easily fix any student in front of them. Our instructors aren’t ever handcuffed if a student can’t change a particular swing shape movement. Our instructors also learn that what might be a fault in one swing is a correct movement in the other. For example, while a club across the line or losing posture in the downswing is a fault for a 1 Plane Swing, those elements are often an important part of a highly functioning 2 Plane Swing.
Our instructor’s training will also be heavily focused on the most important part of the swing – The Release. However, this is also possibly the most misunderstood. It is often taught poorly to golfers – and sometimes not at all. This is because once again there are two very different ways to release the clubhead to achieve both speed and accuracy. These two releases, which we term RIT & LOP, is the secret to helping our students achieve a correct and repetitive impact. Too often we see students in a perfect position at the top of backswing but still hitting poor shots. What they don’t realize is that without mastering club delivery, a correct repetitive impact – and hence good golf – will continue to remain elusive.

You will learn both what to teach (Information) and how to teach (Application). We’ve developed a suite of unparalleled, innovative online tools that are a resource for continuous learning 24/7/365. Levels of Certification
Level 1 – Foundation
Now Offered in a Live Virtual Format
The Level 1 – Foundation course lays the groundwork for the instructor. Instructors are introduced to the three cornerstones of Plane Truth Golf. Those are the Plane Truth + & – Impact System (Diagnostic Tool), 1 & 2 Plane Swings (Swing Shape), and RIT & LOP Releases (Correct & Repetitive Impact). In order to help our instructors gain ownership of the information, we developed a tool we call “The Matrix” to provide continuing education. The Matrix is our web-accessed, video-driven, “drill-down” knowledge base for understanding all things golf instruction.
Level 2 – Application
The Level 2 – Application course puts the instructor’s skills to the test. Using the information learned from Level 1, we focus on live lessons in this course. Participants spend much more time on the lesson tee conducting multiple live lessons. The final grade is made up of the instructor’s performance in giving quality lessons in the real world.
Level 3 – Inner Circle
Achieving Level 3 status is an honor that is based on performance rather than testing. There are no written exams to pass or oral presentations to make. It is based simply on your performance as a leader in the field of golf instruction in four individual categories.

The Matrix
The Plane Truth Matrix is our Instructor-only diagnosis tool. It is a web-accessed, video-driven, “drill-down” knowledge base for understanding all of the correct movements and faults for both the 1 & 2 Plane Swing Shape systems. It contains over 400 professionally shot videos. Incorporating our + and – Impact System, its detailed video-based descriptions of swing shapes, ball flights, swing faults, causes, fixes, and drills provide the most comprehensive teaching tool in golf. As our teachings evolve, we update the Matrix with these changes and believe it to be the cornerstone for ongoing delivery of continuing education for our certified instructors.
Video Portal
Our private Instructor-only video portal is a massive resource for our instructors. The Video Portal library contains over 100 hours of videos recorded from past Instructor Summits, Webinars, and even recordings from past Level 1 Certifications. Like the Matrix and Case Studies, we are always adding new content to the portal. We keep a library of past Annual Instructor Summits for our instructors to view. These videos contain dozens of speakers including Matt Kuchar, Stan Utley, Tony Romo, Mark Broadie, etc. to name a few. It is a great resource for those who were unable to attend or would like to view the information again.
Case Studies
Our Case Study tool is an organized database of lesson examples from a vast array of students. It contains over 60 student case studies. Each case study walks the instructor through the process from identifying the underlying fault to providing the fix for that student. This tool provides repetition in the art of diagnosing and making the proper corrections to fix a golfer’s impact and resulting ball flight. Like The Matrix, we continuously update this resource and it provides a great resource to study for the Level 2 Certification.

The Plane Truth Inner Circle Forum
The Inner Circle forum is an invitation-only private forum on Facebook that is not accessible or viewable by the public. This provides easy interaction with Jim Hardy, Chris O’Connell, and all of our certified instructors. We use this group to provide exclusive content including TOUR player updates, discussions on our latest teachings, swing consultations for your students, etc. Our community is free to share ideas and thoughts behind the scenes and out of the public eye. This is an important tool for the instructor’s continuing education.

We encourage you to take advantage of this as we have visitors everyday searching for a certified instructor. Annual Certified Instructor Summit
This three day event brings the Plane Truth family together from all over the globe for continuing education. One of the most anticipated portions of the Summit is always the latest findings and breakthroughs enabling your students to improve faster and more efficiently. We also bring in impactful speakers and presenters including PGA TOUR players, other successful golf instructors, sports psychologists, golf technology companies, and equipment companies. It is a fantastic networking opportunity as well as a wonderful environment to not only learn but also get some work in on your own game with our best instructors. As one of our most valued contributions to our instructors it is an event where instructors both learn while having some fun and leave more equipped to help their students, “Hit the Next Ball Better!”
Observe Level 1 & Level 2 Seminars
All Plane Truth Certified Instructors who wish to stay current on our continually developing information or refresh their knowledge are able to observe future seminars of their current level. This is a great continuous learning opportunity that many of our instructors consistently take advantage of. Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis depending on facility size. Please contact Dee at dee@planetruthgolf.com to schedule. Attendance is free, but instructors are asked to pay an admin fee to cover their food and beverage costs.
Opportunity to Observe or Host Plane Truth Golf Schools
Opportunity to observe any of our Plane Truth Golf Schools hosted by Jim Hardy and/or Chris O’Connell. Please Note: We limit the number of observing instructors to three (3) at each school. Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. Please contact Dee at dee@planetruthgolf.com to schedule. There is no fee for the instructor to observe these golf schools.
Additionally, you have the opportunity to host a private Plane Truth Golf School for your client base at your facility. The instructor will teach alongside the Plane Truth instruction team and earn a portion of the revenues from the school.
Diploma Flag
For every level attained in the Plane Truth Certified Instructor program you will receive a flag noting that level achieved which serves as your diploma. It is a nice piece which many have Jim Hardy and Chris O’Connell sign to then display at their facility.
Access to Plane Truth Marketing Materials and Logo Merchandise
As a Plane Truth Certified Instructor, we will provide you access to usage of our logo and name to support your efforts to grow your instruction business. We do however, request that you submit for our approval to ensure brand standards are met.
Instructors can also purchase logoed Plane Truth apparel, books, & DVDs at a discount for both personal use and resale to customers.
How Do I Become A Plane Truth Certified Instructor?
You will be a Plane Truth Certified Instructor once you complete your Level 1 – Foundation seminar and pass a comprehensive exam based on the concepts presented. However, you cannot become a world-class instructor in two days by passing a test and hanging a certificate on your wall. It is a journey that we believe is one of continuous learning. It is this ongoing support and education that has been lacking in the instruction field and made us apprehensive to certify instructors in the past. To remain Plane Truth certified, and to continue receiving the benefits, instructors are required to pay dues and participate in the continuing education opportunities presented to them including the Plane Truth Instructor Summit. Level 1 and Level 2 instructors are encouraged to attend the Summit at least once every two years to maintain their status while Level 3 instructors are required to attend every year. Membership payment options are either $50/month or $500/year.
